We headed out to MRNP for a first trip of the season up to Camp Muir. We hung out at Longmire until 9am when they opened the gate. Starting from the Paradise parking lot there was poor visibility. There was some question as to how to find the way to head up Panorama Point. We initially tried to head eastward but kept running into the steep drop-off. Eventually we headed far enough northward that we could turn and take the winter route. From there there was a boot track and wands.
As we hiked up, we eventually got above the marine layer and had intermittent visibility. It was cold but not especially windy. We hung out for a while at the shelter and then headed back down. Tina had baked a chocolate cake to celebrate Paula's graduation and intended to present it to her at the end of the trip. Unfortunately, by the time we got back to the parking lot, Paula had left. Tina knew that it was just days after my birthday so she repurposed her creation as a birthday cake.
On the drive home we stopped at the Flying Tomato grill. I ordered the lasagna and was presented with a towering block of pasta, cheese and sauce.
